In today’s world, it seems almost impossible to solve complex problems without the use of technologies. When analysing big data to identify relationships, uncover new connections and models, the use of technology is inevitable.

Undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students of Matej Bel University in Banska Bystrica, alongside with assoc. prof. Dr. Karol Fabián and his team from the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, utilise Cogniware and IBM solutions to analyse social and political trends through social media coverage.

Cogniware is one of the leading vendors in technology solutions with focus on the analysis of unstructured data. Cogniware solution combined with IBM solution provides a powerful sophisticated platform for gathering, analysing and visualisation of social media data. Cogniware Data Collector supports data collection from a variety of social medias such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Vkontakte or YouTube.

Collected data is send to IBM Watson Content Analysis, which is a market leader in the area of processing and analysing unstructured data. Extracted information and connections are used for an advanced visualisation in IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook. IBM Watson Content Analytics and IBM i2 Analyst’s Notebook are linked through Cogniware i2WEX integration. This is a unique product developed by Cogniware, which connects the unstructured data with structured data and provides visualisation of relevant connections and relations.

Matej Bel University utilises Cogniware and IBM solutions free of charge, for the purpose of non-commercial research, such as social media mapping and modelling and for research on limits of the use of AI in behavioural analysis of social media. Students are currently using Cogniware and IBM solutions to support their arguments in dissertations and research papers.
