The EMERGE Language Forum Officially Launched

    Shaping a Shared Plurilingual Vision

This milestone event marked the beginning of the co-creation process

The EMERGE Language Forum officially commenced its activities with a hybrid launch event held on May 15–16, 2025, hosted by Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. This milestone event marked the beginning of the co-creation process for the EMERGE Plurilingual Language Policy (PLP), a strategic initiative designed to embed inclusive and sustainable multilingualism across the Alliance.

Bringing together language scholars, policy experts, and educators from EMERGE partner institutions and beyond, the two-day seminar provided the foundation for shaping a common plurilingual approach that is both visionary and grounded in the lived realities of diverse academic communities.

The Language Forum will act as a key advisory body within EMERGE, offering expert guidance on language use and accessibility across the Alliance’s teaching, research, and communication activities. It is tasked with developing a comprehensive and future-oriented policy that celebrates linguistic diversity and fosters equitable access to knowledge and participation.

The draft policy will address five strategic dimension:

    • Governance
    • Communication Practices
    • Teaching and Learning
    • Research Practices
    • Community Engagement

To ensure both depth and coherence, four thematic working groups have been established. These teams will collaborate intensively over the coming months, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, quality, and cross-sector alignment. Importantly, the final policy will include a structured evaluation framework to support long-term impact and adaptability.

The next phase of the process will unfold at a follow-up seminar hosted by Neapolis University Pafos in October 2025, where working groups will consolidate their inputs. A full draft of the Plurilingual Language Policy is expected to be presented to the EMERGE Governing Board by April 2026.

The launch of the Language Forum is a significant step forward in EMERGE’s commitment to empowering regional communities and enhancing academic cooperation through linguistic inclusivity.
