Graduates of Bachelor´s Degree Study (Bc.)

Graduates of the study programme in law at the bachelor's level of study have adequate knowledge of individual legal branches, within which primary individual profile subjects are taught (Roman law, history of law, theory of the state and law, constitutional law, administrative law, substantive and procedural civil law, labour law, public international law) and identify mutual connections between them. They understand the interdisciplinary nature of law, its close connection with application practice, the importance of court decisions and doctrinal opinions. Graduates of the bachelor's study programme in the field of law have all the necessary knowledge and understanding of the theory of the state and law, the separation of powers, the principles of the functioning of the rule of law, and know the historical determinants of the development of law and its key institutions. They have the necessary knowledge of substantive and procedural law and administrative justice. They control the material of civil substantive and procedural law, as well as the basics of labour law. Graduates of the law study programme at the bachelor's level of study master the methodology of interpretation and application of legal norms and ascertainment of the facts within individual legal branches. They orient themselves in the systems and methods of obtaining legally relevant information (mainly legal regulations and related documents, decisions of courts and administrative bodies, professional and scientific legal literature) and are able to search for case law and the current state of legal opinions (doctrine) in relation to specific issues. The graduates are characterized by independent abstract, analytical and critical thinking. They know how to communicate at the necessary level in the Slovak language in written and oral form, to convey information in the work team and in the external environment, to defend their positions and proposals. They can argue and justify their opinions, positions and proposals to the necessary extent. The graduates are qualified to carry out preparatory work within the judiciary, to work as specialists in state administration and self-government, in the field of legal management or in the non-governmental sector.

Acceptance conditions

Admission requirements for the 1st level of study:

The basic requirement for admission to a bachelor's degree is to obtain a complete secondary education or a complete secondary professional education.

The admission procedure for the part-time form of bachelor's degree is without an admission exam.

Applicants for the study at any level who fail to demonstrate the fulfilment of the basic requirements for admission to study at the time of verification of the fulfilment of the requirements for admission may be conditionally accepted to study provided that they must prove the fulfilment of the requirements for admission no later than on the date of study enrolment.

In all study programmes of the MBU Faculty of Law, applicants who have not passed the secondary school graduation exam in the Slovak language and are applying for a study programme conducted in the Slovak language must be fluent in the Slovak language at least at the B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The Faculty of Law exclusively accepts a certificate of command of the Slovak language as a foreign/second language at the required level (minimum B1), which is issued by language schools registered by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Slovak Republic in the Network of Schools and School Facilities of the Slovak Republic (registered state language schools and private language schools). Applicants must submit an officially certified copy of a document confirming knowledge of the Slovak language at the required level no later than on the day of enrolment for studies.
Applicants who have completed (or will complete in the given academic year) a bachelor's or master's degree program in the Slovak language are exempt from the requirement to submit a certificate of proficiency in the Slovak language at the B1 level.


Applicants who have completed their previous level of education abroad are required, in accordance with the relevant provisions of Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of educational documents and professional qualifications and on amendments to certain acts, as amended, to submit recognition of educational documents obtained outside the territory of the Slovak Republic as follows:

Applicants for bachelor's degree programs who have completed secondary education in one of the countries of the European Union (with the exception of the Czech Republic, where recognition of educational documents is not required), Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Russia, China, or Iceland are required to deliver by mail or in person a certificate of recognition of their level of education in paper form, together with a certified copy of their educational certificate (high school diploma) in paper form and its official translation into Slovak. If an applicant for study does not submit a certificate of recognition of their level of education together with the required attachments by the time of verification of fulfilment of the conditions for admission to the given faculty (in the case of applicants for bachelor's studies who have completed secondary education in one of the EU countries with the exception of the Czech Republic, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Russia, China, or Iceland) or an officially certified copy of the decision on the recognition of the educational document (in the case of other applicants), they will be admitted conditionally. The applicant is required to submit the above documents no later than on the specified date of enrollment in higher education.

Application deadline and the requirements for foreign students´ admission are identical with the ones applicable to the students from the Slovak Republic. Tuition fees are regulated by the Regulation on Tuition for the 2026/2027academic year.

Conditions of acceptance without exams

The admission procedure for the part-time form of bachelor's degree is without an admission exam.

The basic requirement for admission to a bachelor's degree is to obtain a complete secondary education or a complete secondary professional education.

A structured curriculum vitae (with the applicant's signature) and an officially certified copy of the secondary-school graduation certificate (we do not accept scans) are part of the application for bachelor's degree studies (1st level).

Applicants for a part-time form of bachelor's degree must submit the documents that form the appendix of the application to the Study Office of the MBU Faculty of Law no later than on the day of enrolment, otherwise they will not be enrolled for studies. It is not necessary to list the subjects and results of assessments from secondary school, nor the subjects and results of the secondary-school graduation exam in the application (it applies to both forms of study). Secondary school results and secondary-school graduation exam results will not be included in the result of the admission procedure.

Additional information

The admission procedure for each level of study begins with the receipt of an application to the Faculty. The Faculty does not confirm receipt of the application.

In the application, it is necessary to clearly indicate which form of study the applicant is interested in, whether in the admission to full-time or part-time study. The application for study is submitted separately for the full-time form of study and separately for the part-time form of study. In one "Application for higher education studies" form, only one form of study is indicated. In case of interest in both forms of study, it is necessary to submit two applications, i.e., separately for full-time and separately for part-time form of study and pay twice the admission fee.

The MBU Faculty of Law prefers submission of electronic applications - in that case it is not necessary to send the application in paper form.

Only if the applicant does not have the possibility to submit an electronic application, they can send the application in paper form to the address: Právnická fakulta UMB, Komenského 20, 974 01 Banská Bystrica (MBU Faculty of Law, Komenského 20, 974 01 Banská Bystrica) within the application deadline for the relevant degree –form of study.
If the application is submitted in paper form, the 3rd page of the application form must have the applicant's handwritten signature.

Certified copies of all documents required for the electronic version are attached to the paper application. If the application is submitted in paper form, it is necessary to stick a copy of the proof of payment of the admission fee to the 3rd page of the application (account statement, internet banking statement. The payment order is not a proof of payment, therefore it will not be accepted!).

The MBU Faculty of Law does not require a medical certificate of medical fitness for higher education studies; we accept an application without a medical certificate.

A structured curriculum vitae (with the applicant's signature) and an officially certified copy of the secondary-school graduation certificate (we do not accept scans) are part of the application for bachelor's degree studies (1st level). All applicants for a full-time bachelor's degree (whether they submit an electronic application or an application in paper form) submit an officially certified copy of their secondary-school graduation certificate to the Study Office of the MBU Faculty of Law in person, during the presentation on the day of the admission procedure, or sends it by registered mail to the Study Office of the MBU Faculty of Law no later than 5 days before the admission exam. Applicants who have completed secondary education abroad shall submit certified documents of education in accordance with Act No. 422/2015 Coll. on the Recognition of Documents of Education and Professional Qualifications and on amendments to certain acts under the same conditions, i.e. in person, during the presentation on the day of the admission procedure, or by registered mail to the Study Department of the Faculty of Law, Matej Bel University, no later than 5 days before the admission exams. Applicants who do not demonstrate fulfilment of the basic conditions for admission to study at the time of verification of fulfilment of the conditions for admission may be admitted to study conditionally, with the obligation to demonstrate fulfilment of the basic conditions for admission to study at the latest on the day designated for enrolment. Otherwise, they will not be enrolled for studies. Applicants for a part-time form of bachelor's degree must submit the documents that form the appendix of the application to the Study Office of the MBU Faculty of Law no later than on the day of enrolment, otherwise they will not be enrolled for studies.
