Language on-line seminar with practical exercises focused on developing communication skills, specifically reading and listening comprehension, speaking and writing including functional exercises in orthoepy, Slovak pronunciation, lexical and grammatical exercises.

  • Basic phrases, e. g. greetings, introducing oneself, apologies, requests
  • Personal data
  • City, orientation on the street and indoors
  • At a university, daily program, at work
  • Clothing
  • Shopping, colours
  • In a restaurant, food and drinks
  • Family
  • Spare time (hobbies)
  • Going on a trip (historical monuments and interesting places in Slovakia)
  • Culture and art
  • Celebrating a Slovak Christmas and other Slovak holidays

Learning objectives:

A1, beginner's level, according to A Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, signifies a target level of language skills acquisition upon completion of an A1 course.

After the course, the student will have basic command of Slovak language; he/she will be familiar with Slovak culture and the university school system in Slovakia.

The student:

  1. understands the basic statements in Slovak language that relate to him/her or relate to the family and the closest surroundings,
  2. in the printed text understands basic vocabulary, understands titles of articles and simple sentences, can understand the information contained in e. g. announcements, catalogues or posters,
  3. can communicate in Slovak in a simple way, although he/she may need to repeat the statement more slowly or help to formulate a statement, can ask questions related to everyday life, needs and topics that interest him/her, can answer simple questions,
  4. can write short, simple text, e. g. holiday postcard/text messages, can fill in a form with personal data, state nationality, occupation, address, etc., can write a simple description of the environment and a short story.

Outline principal opportunities and challenges in key environmental problems and economic sectors and identify enabling conditions for their greening. Provide examples of greening at national level.
