Finance and Currency

Course provides introduction into the world of finance and currencies. We start with theoretical concept of money as social institution, its brief history with focus on past and present monetary systems. Attention is paid to time value of money, concept of interest rates and inflation. We bring overview of international finance, financial markets and its instruments, corporate and public finances, principles of commercial and central banks. Final topics are insurance, social security systems and pensions. Student should acquire basic understanding of terminology, be able to critically assess opportunities and risks in the field of finance and resolve practical problems in banking, insurance, public finance, corporate finance and international finance.
