    Global Problems of Environment

    The GEP course addresses the genesis and drivers of global environmental problems, including natural hazards (and natural disasters). It explains natural systems, the processes of their disturbance, the consequences for the environment and man, and seeks systemic solutions, especially in the areas of air pollution, climate change (possibilities of its mitigation and adaptation), ozone depletion and recovery, depletion and pollution of water resources, land degradation, desertification and land use change. It pays particular attention to the growing loss of biodiversity, genetically modified organisms, the chemicalization of environmental components, and global epidemiological threats. It also systematically classifies the drivers of high anthropization of the Earth system and environmental degradation, with emphasis on the growth of the human population, its consumption, benefits and risks of technology, explains the ecological footprint, bio capacity and ecological debt.
