Since 2018, European university alliances have been an important initiative in the European higher education education space, aimed at increasing the competitiveness and attractiveness of higher education institutions in Europe. Participation in this type of transnational consortium is therefore perceived as a prestigious matter, requiring strong international contacts and high quality education and research. Today, eight Slovak higher education institutions are successfully involved in European university alliances.
The working meeting was attended by senior representatives and project managers of the Enlight (Comenius University in Bratislava), EULiST (Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava), FilmEU (Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava), INVEST (Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra), Ulysseus (Technical University in Košice), KreativEU (Trnava University in Trnava), PIONEER (University of Žilina in Žilina) and EMERGE (Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica). In a constructive dialogue with experts from the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Youth of the Slovak Republic, the Slovak Academic Information Agency (SAIA) and the Slovak Rectors' Conference, they discussed common topics that determine the current perspectives of the consortia. The discussion focused mainly on the third mission and community engagement of European university alliances, cooperation between alliances and non-academic partners, the development of joint study programs and lifelong learning courses, and finally the creation of technical solutions for jointly provided educational activities in alliances. A prolific space for a very valuable exchange of knowledge and experience was established. The next meeting of Slovak universities actively participating in European university alliances will take place at Trnava University in Trnava in early autumn.
