    MBU statement

The leadership of Matej Bel University and its academic community are following the current developments in Ukraine with deep concern. We unequivocally condemn Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, which is a serious violation of international law and which is in complete contradiction with the values of European civilization and the peaceful coexistence of European nations. We express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and in this difficult time we are ready to provide our Ukrainian neighbours, colleagues and friends with the support and assistance necessary to manage the impact of this military conflict on their lives.

The main mission of Matej Bel University is to create and spread knowledge that protects, strengthens and develops democratic and humanistic values and contributes to solving social challenges in the 21st century. In fulfilling our mission to be an open, dynamic and intercultural institution that provides education and develops science, research, innovation, culture and the arts, we respect the fundamental values of freedom, democracy, law, respect for human rights and sustainable development. The current situation in Europe underlines the important role of universities in strengthening the values of humanity, tolerance, solidarity, mutual respect and esteem, as well as in increasing social resistance to the spread of political propaganda, misinformation, radicalism and extremism.

Statement of the Consortium of Slovak Universities U10+ on the situation in Ukraine

The Consortium of Slovak Universities U10+ carefully perceives the difficult and complicated security situation in Ukraine. The Consortium supports the principle of its territorial integrity, which is protected by International Law and considers the use of armed force by foreign State on the largest scale since World War II to be an unprecedented encroachment on Ukrainian sovereignty, a violation of fundamental human rights and a clear act of unilateral aggression.

We, the management, the staff and the students of the universities associated in the Consortium, express our solidarity with the at-risk students and the staff of the universities, and we assure that we are ready to help them. We are well aware that we live in a closely connected world, and what happened to them may happen to us tomorrow. Our universities will provide you with the material and intangible assistance they have at their disposal. We publish this opinion and it becomes part of the attitude of the people of Slovakia, but also our practical attitude. We want to prove that it is true of this country and its people that we can support those who are in personal need; all the more so those who are victims of large-scale violence and injustice.
