Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica is the first University in Slovakia to become a part of CFA Institute University Recognition Program with its study programmes.
„Finance, banking and Investment study programme was included into the CFA programme, which means that both study cycles are very closely connected to the professional practice. Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica offers quality education in the humanities and social sciences. The connection of study and practice supports students with innovative mentoring by creating the conditions to gain experience in volunteering, non-formal education and the involvement of the community. It is a Central European leader in the development of globally recognized service learning strategy.
The university operates the Globsec Academy Center, an incubator of young leaders supported by world renowned think tank with the same name and Talent and Research Center, a place for ambitious students who want to improve their conditions in the labor market.
Education at MBU is provided by active professionals and practitioners; it witnesses positive reactions not only among students but also among graduates and employers. An example is the cooperation between MBU and SAP Slovakia. MBU students can get a University SAP certificate once they successfully complete two voluntary courses at the university. If they decide to deepen their knowledge of SAP in their thesis, the company provides the participation in specialized block gatherings, the content of which is the preparation for the "SAP Global Certification" and students can even try and reach the Global SAP certificate.
MBU teachers are consultants in demand to the institutions from practice and to the media. They provide advice on pension insurance, they are holders of patents in chemistry, authors of innovative technical solutions for the physically disadvantaged, creators of policy analyzes in the field of international relations, educational policy and in many other fields.
Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica is the fourth most successful in the Erasmus+ programme in regards to the amount of allocated funds and annually administrates about 450 international motilities. „Our students have several opportunities to study at foreign university during their studies here. In addition to study mobility Erasmus+, which is the most often chosen possibility, they can also pick studies in joint study programmes (joint degree or double degree). A student is enrolled at two universities – home and foreign – at the same time. They spend some time of their studies at each. After the successful completion of their studies, they get a joint diploma issued by both universities or two separate diplomas from two universities,“ states the MBU vice-rector Katarína Chovancová. Partner universities are in German towns Jena and Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, in French Nancy, Reims and Poitiers, in Polish Krakow and Poznan and in Czech Prague.
Based on the results in science, MBU in Banská Bystrica was included into the wold ranking SCIMAGO in 2016 as one of the 13 Slovak institutions that published at least 100 scientific publications recorded in Scopus database in the last year.
MBU students can visit valuable university library and study rooms, student club and several associations and unions. Many are engaged in the arts or sports. Achievements of athletes from MBU sports clubs in hockey, basketball, athletics, karate, judo, swimming, triathlon are well known. Finally, there are many Olympic winners and their coaches among the graduates and teachers of MBU.
