EMERGE Collaborative Call
Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, within the framework of the European University Alliance EMERGE, launched the grant call “Support for UMB community initiatives strengthening sustainability, inclusion and resilience.
The call was open to UMB students and staff. Projects were required to be implemented in cooperation with at least one external partner—such as a non-profit organisation, local authority, educational or cultural institution, or business - and to actively involve UMB students as members of the project team.
The call closed on 30 June 2026. A total of 12 project proposals were submitted in this inaugural edition, covering areas such as education, arts and culture, social inclusion, and community development. The proposals were prepared by UMB students and staff in collaboration with external partner organisations.
The submitted projects will now be assessed by an independent evaluation committee. The results will be announced in August 2026, and the selected projects will be implemented between September 2026 and September 2027.
The grant call forms part of UMB's activities within the EMERGE European University Alliance and reflects the University's long-term commitment to strengthening collaboration between academia and society through concrete, fundable initiatives that create meaningful and lasting community impact.
The following projects were submitted:
- Cultural heritage of the displaced Javorina area in the cadastral territory of Lom nad Rimavicou – restoration of a mountain chapel by UMB volunteers | Arts and culture

- Supporting financial literacy of children in residential care centres | Education
- Teaching differently: meaningfully, playfully and creatively (developing practical skills of future english language teachers) | Education
- Understanding diversity: community partnership between SPOSA BB and the Faculty of education UMB to support neurodiversity and long-term cooperation | Social inclusion
- The Garden | community and participatory activities
- Strong and engaged community: strong democracy (Mudrovačky discussion series) | Community and participatory activities
- Community and integration youth club | Community and participatory activities
- We are at home on earth - an educational project extended through creative design of school grounds (paths, stairs and walls) | Education

- UMB at Medený Hámor - inviting the academic community to explore the past of european history and the future of cultural and industrial heritage sites | Arts and culture
