- Visa / residence permit: Visa is required for all students that are not European Union citizens. All necessary information will be provided by the Embassy.

ACCOMODATION

Monthly Accommodation Fee: 120 EUR per month
Accommodation fee is not paid by the University, but by students. Accommodation fee does not include meals.
POST-ARRIVAL TASKS
Temporary Residence Permit
Documents needed:
- Valid passport and Visa D.
- Original birth certificate issued in your state – apostilled or super-legalized by the Embassy of SR and officially translated* into Slovak language (by translator registered in SR), not older than 90 days.
- In case you were the resident in other state during the last 3 years for more than 90 days within 6 months in a row, you will need your criminal record certificate – apostilled or super-legalized by the Embassy of SR and officially translated* into Slovak language (by translator registered in SR), not older than 90 days.
- Photo 3 x 3,5 cm – 4 pcs minimum.
- Medical certificate to Study Abroad issued in English in your home country maximum 30 days old.
- Confirmation of Accommodation – provided by UMB.
- Confirmation of Studies – provided by UMB.
- Travel insurance valid for the period of stay.
Further Study at Slovak Universities
Documents needed:
If you want to apply for further studies in Slovakia after completing your Slovak Language Preparation Programme, you will need original documents confirming your highest level of study. The documents are required to be apostilled and super-legalized and officially translated* into Slovak language (by translator registered in SR). You need:
- Documents on completed secondary studies: reports of every grade and the final diploma. Students applying for Master’s studies are required to obtain these documents as well.
- Documents on completed university studies: diploma, and diploma supplement (if issued).
OTHER POST-ARRIVAL TASKS

- To apply for the temporary residence permit – provided by UMB.
- To open a bank account – The bank account contract will be needed to transfer the scholarship money to your new account in the Slovak bank. Note: Please note, that first scholarship money amount will be transferred to your Slovak bank account in November (including the scholarship for September).
- To take medical examination – provided by UMB; The medical examination is charged and paid for by the student.
- To apply for health insurance – provided by UMB.

Description: Institute of Language and Vocational Training (IJOP) at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica organizes Slovak Language Preparational Programme for university studies in Slovak language. The Programme takes 10 months, from September to June with weekly donation of 30 lessons minimum.
Programme’s aim: Linguistic competence in Slovak language as foreign language – preparation for further university studies in Slovak language, for both general and language specific purposes.
Schedule:
- Winter term – general language training; objective of this term is to learn general language competence (A1 and A2 levels). During September, lessons are held in hybrid form (online and present). From October onwards lessons are held only in present form!
Note: If you (due to serious reasons) cannot start the course on 1 September 2025 in-person, please note that hybrid form of learning will be possible only in September. In such a case please inform Mgr. Martina Šafránová [email protected]) as soon as possible about date of your arrival. Furthermore, access to online lessons will be provided.
- Summer term – proceeding of general language training (B1 and B2 levels). In summer term, students shall attend language specific subjects (in Slovak language) according their desired field of study they apply for (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, IT, Economics, Civics, etc.). Objective is to prepare students for studies at the university and entrance exams.
Exam: Language competence exam according to CEFR. After passing the exam, students will be given a Slovak language proficiency certificate (B2 level) according to CEFR.
Exam includes following language skills: reading, listening, writing, speaking, and grammar. For further information on the language preparation course, students will receive information at the beginning of the programme.
