THIRD AGE UNIVERSITY

Third Age University UMB (in Slovak abbreviated as UTV) is one of the oldest and, as for the number of students, biggest third-age universities in Slovakia. In the academic year 2007/2008 it started the 16th year of its existence.

UTV is a member of the Third Age Universities Association (in Slovak abbreviated as ASUTV), which secures its interconnection with the international organizations, such as the International Association of Universities of the Third Age. (IAUTA), European Federation of Older Students (EFOS) and European Federation of the Elderly (EURAG).

Third Age University is an institution for spare-time education of the elderly people. It plays an important role in creation of education opportunities for the seniors, while having a positive impact on the quality of their lives. UTV represents an open system of education that allows updating the offer of fi elds of study and their contents according to the students´ interests each academic year.
The students can acquire new knowledge and skills related to various scientifi c branches in a direct connection with their experience, interests and abilities. The guarantee and a coordinating body of UTV is Matej Bel University, Banská Bystrica, which contributes this way to improvement of seniors´ quality of life.

Third Age University, Matej Bel University, Banská Bystrica, has two branches - in Poprad and Dolný Kubín.
