University Library (UL) of Matej Bel University is its cultural, informational and educational centre, functioning throughout the University. The mission of UMB UL is:
-
a) gathering, processing, protection and making the local and foreign scientific or professional documents available to the
readers, b) providing librarian-information services to the UMB teachers, researchers and students and to the public, -
c) bibliographic registration of publication activities of the UMB teachers, researchers and doctoral students,
-
d) saving and registration of qualification works and research reports defended at UMB,
-
e) providing information training of the users. University Library has a function of an academic library for UMB.
It provides services to the academics and partially also to the public. It allows free access to any information and thus supports lifelong learning. University Library UMB fulfils its tasks by providing librarian-information services not only from its own library resources, but also by allowing Access to the external information resources.
UMB University Library also:
-
builds, completes and electronically processes the library-information resources in a systematic way and in compliance with the professional orientation of the UMB Faculties,
-
provides compendious organization and consistent protection of the library-information resources,
-
builds a database of the publication activities of the University staff, provides permanent consulting, search and borrowing services,
-
improves the accessibility of the external information resources,
-
through its website it informs about the library services and allows Access to the online catalogue of documents, database of publication activities of the UMB teachers and researchers and a database of qualification works,
-
under the European Documentation Centre it provides information about activities of the European Union and allows Access to the materials and documents published by the European Commission and other EU institutions,
-
ensures implementation of new information technology and new services according to the users´ requirements.
The University Library stock is made up of more than 200 000 documents of domestic and foreign provenance from the field of natural and social sciences, linguistics, law, politology and economics.
